Reading about food is as much of a hobby as preparing and cooking it. My Christmas list will usually have 2 – 3 suggestions – normally recipes from my favourite chefs. However during the last 2 -3 years I’ve become more attracted to cookery writers (writers who can cook, and cooks who can write – if you see what I mean). Amongst the ‘writers who can cook’ brigade I’d recommend the following: Anthony Bourdain – US wild-child chef who achieved notoriety with his ‘warts and all’ Kitchen Confidential. (Having worked as a KP in several large commercial kitchens there’s nothing in this book that surprises me!

Hugely entertaining – and his TV programmes are a treat. You can catch up with Anthony via his blog.
