An action packed long weekend racing ’round the island’ at Cowes. A day’s cruising on Thursday – getting to know the boat (a 46 foot Bavaria) followed by a harder day’s training on Friday in preparation for the race. We were moored offshore on Friday night so a lousy night’s sleep rolling around in the Solent. Up before dawn and heading straight to the start line for our 6:30 start time. A hard, cold slog against the wind and tides to the Needles – where we found 2 guys in the water (gone overboard form their boat). Thankfully there was a rescue boat on hand to take them ashore. Reaching down the southern side of the island we surfed along on 3 – 4 metre waves – split our spinnaker in half in the process! We finished 553 out of 1,750 boats in 9 hrs 7 mins. Back to Gosport for the evening and a well earned curry (and Cobra beers). Actually – we found a really superb Indian in Portsmouth – highly recommended – the Indian Palace – very ‘buzzy’ on Saturday night (expect Hen Night antics!).
